We must’ve done alright because they I invited back for another show a couple weeks later I hit on them for all I was worth but they wanted nothing to do with me. We spent the night at Skip’s sister’s apartment which was chock-a-block with college girls. Skip had a sister going to Eastern Michigan and she hired us to play some big frat hoo-hah. Playing for the high school dances was great but probably the best was the two shows we did for a college crowd down in Ypsilanti. For the life of me, I don’t know why John (guitar), Skip (bass) and I didn’t pick up another drummer and continue on. After that, the organ player and our 15-year-old drummer quit and we broke up. I sang for the Harris Tweed all during my junior year, 1967-68. I could sing like a choirboy and howl like a banshee in those days.

We got paid anywhere from $100 to $150, which may not sound like much but we were just kids plus we’re talking 1968 dollars. We played at Michigan School for the Blind, where Stevie Wonder went. We played all the area high schools - Mason, Holt, Waverly, Owasso and O’Rafferty. We played all the hits at the time, “Light My Fire,” “Satisfaction,” “Purple Haze,” “My Back Pages,” “Well Respected Man” and more. That’s right, I was lead singer and front man for a rock ‘n’ roll cover band when I was 16 and we had gigs just about every weekend. There were a number of bands plying the Lansing pop/rock dance circuit in the mid-’60s - the Woolies, the Plagues, the Ones, the Frightened Trees and my band - the Harris Tweed.
